Musik in German - Tuesday after school program
By popular demand, we offer an afternoon music program (“Lied und Wort” – “Songs and Words”) led by Dr Cristina Robins-Figl, our head teacher at the GAP.
Music is offered Tuesdays from 3:30 – 5pm, and is suitable for children with a good understanding of German, as it is run entirely in German.
Children pick up vocabulary more quickly through songs, and enjoy the sounds and feelings music produces. There is an emphasis on learning new music related vocabulary and having fun with music. The children are exposed to different styles of music, including the highlights and (simplified) stories of famous operas, and will be introduced to some simple but effective rounds (Kanons). We will hear different instruments (Peter und der Wolf, for example).
Parents may join our sessions if they wish, but there is no requirement for them to do so.
The program starts at 3:30pm with 20 minutes of afternoon tea, and Cristina attends to other GAP children who are heading home. GAP children who attend music can just stay at the hall until music starts (in a seamless transition).
From 3:45pm, children who attend our music program will learn German songs, experiment with musical instruments and hear German texts and stories. They also experience drawing and moving to music.
The cost is $20 per session if you enrol for the whole term (10 weeks), or $25 per single session (in which case, your child needs to be signed up for music when you drop off your child at GAP in the morning).
Children will need to bring afternoon tea with them (or plan to have what might be left of their lunch), which they will eat during their music session.
These music sessions are also open to GAP graduates or non-GAP children.
The program is geared for the 3-5 year old age range, but there are limited places for 6-10 year olds wanting to participate and keep up their German.
One of our parents who stayed to watch a few times, wrote to us, "By the way, my son is loving the music afternoons with Cristina - she does such great stuff with the children. I'm so impressed with how she manages to engage them and get them excited about the music - I've sat through LOTS of kids music classes in my time and she is really exceptional."
If you are interested to enrol your child, please send an email to Lisa (spielwelt@homemail.com.au).
